Cosmetic Dentistry Porcelain VeneersUnhappy with the color, shape or size of your teeth? Porcelain veneers offer dramatic results in two easy procedures. Porcelain veneers are actually custom fitted pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the front of the teeth to camouflage irregularities. Veneers are similar to bonding except the quality of veneer material is higher, as is the end result in the short and long term. The colour and translucency of porcelain is very similar to natural enamel and dramatic changes to the whiteness, size and shape of teeth can be had using porcelain. In the long term, strong veneer material is less likely to chip or break and it will not stain or discolour. In fact, in cases of extremely dark or crooked teeth, veneers are the only cosmetic solution.
Placing porcelain veneers is usually a two step process. In almost all cases, the existing teeth need to be shaped slightly (about .3mm) and an impression made. Temporaries are then placed which will mimic the final end result. Approximately two weeks later the temporaries are removed and the final veneers are inserted. The moment you leave the office your porcelain veneers are ready for eating, talking and smiling!

No Preparation Veneers-Lumineers™Although porcelain veneers are very conservative and require minimal changes to the teeth, it is possible to place veneers with no preparation of the teeth whatsoever. One of the most well known of these are called LumineersTM, although there are several companies and laboratories that offer prepless veneers. Prepless veneers work best in situations where the teeth are much smaller than ideal, are in reasonably good alignment and do not have several discolouration problems. Dr. Balogh would be happy to answer your questions about LumineersTM, no preparation veneers and if this type of procedure would be suitable for you. Please contact us for a free consultation.
