Wisdom Teeth Removal FAQ
1. Is wisdom teeth removal covered by insurance?
Coverage varies between plans, but most do provide some amount of coverage for wisdom teeth removal. If you’re eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), it provides coverage for tooth extraction and related costs like scans, anesthesia, and sedation. Whether you receive full or partial coverage will depend on your income and co-payment level.
2. Can I be “asleep” for my wisdom teeth removal?
For safety reasons, we can’t put you to sleep completely during your wisdom teeth removal surgery. That said, we can offer you light to moderate sedation on top of the standard dental anesthetic—for most people, it’s more than enough to help them feel comfortable and relaxed during the procedure.
3. Will I need new x-rays or other scans?
If you’ve had x-rays taken within the past few years and haven’t experienced any major mouth injuries, you probably won’t need new ones. However, if we check your x-rays and see that your wisdom teeth are positioned near nerves or larger blood vessels, we might suggest a targeted CT scan. It’ll make your surgery more precise and reduce the risk of complications.
4. How soon can you remove my wisdom teeth?
It depends on a few factors. If your wisdom teeth need to be extracted urgently because of pain, we’ll do our best to schedule you in ASAP, typically within a week. If you’re having wisdom teeth removed as a precaution or to support a less urgent treatment like Invisalign, then your surgery will probably be a few weeks after you book the initial consultation.
