Ready to try sedation dentistry in Burnaby? Here’s what to expect.
Step 1: Speak with a dentist
Whether you’re new to VCCID or a longtime regular, the first step is to make sure that sedation is right for you.
Step 2: Request sedation while booking
If there aren’t any allergy concerns or medication conflicts, you can ask for sedation while booking any upcoming treatments.
Step 3: Come in and get set up
Sedation is quick, but not instant. Once you arrive and receive your sedatives, it’ll take a few minutes for them to begin working.
Step 4: Experience treatment with sedation
For some people, it’s revolutionary. There’s less anxiety and treatments can feel like they’re over in a fraction of the time.
Step 5: Enjoy a healthier smile
All done! Keep in mind, though, that oral sedation’s effects can last for a few hours, so it’s best to arrange for a ride home.
How Much Does Sedation Dentistry Cost?
Typically just
$150 per visit.
That said, the cost can vary depending on the sedative type and strength. When you book, we’ll provide you with a precise cost and let you know if you’re eligible for any insurance coverage.
You can spread out the cost.
Paying over time can make dental treatment more affordable. That’s why we’ve partnered with Dentalcard to offer you low-interest plans and financing.
Sedation Dentistry FAQ
1. Does insurance cover sedation?
Some dental insurance plans cover sedation, but not all of them. If you’re interested in getting sedation, we can help you check your plan to see if you’re eligible for sedation coverage. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) does cover sedation, but it needs to be submitted for pre-approval before you receive your treatment.
2. Do I need to request sedation in advance?
We do our best to accommodate any last-minute requests for sedation, but we generally encourage patients to ask for it when booking their appointment. That way, we can make sure everything’s ready in advance and your visit isn’t delayed or deferred.
3. When will the sedative wear off?
This depends on the level of sedation you receive. Generally, the oral sedation that we use can leave you feeling drowsy for a few hours after your visit, so we recommend arranging for transportation home from a friend, family member, or ride sharing service.
4. Will I still be awake during the treatment?
Yes, while you might feel drowsy depending on the strength of the sedation, you’ll still be awake. We know the idea of “sleeping through your treatment” is nice, but it’s important that you’re conscious and able to respond to the dentist or hygienist while you’re being cared for.
